“Plastic can be compared to oil. It’s not easy to have a fire in it, but when it’s burning it will increase fast” say Patrick Breukers and Joe Oates. As project managers both are responsible for leading the development of the Fire Retardand Pallet project of Schoeller Arca Systems. They know the importance of producing pallets which meet the standards of the UL 2335 en NFPA 13.
Schoeller Arca Systems has signed a long-term preferred supplier agreement with the American company Intelligent Global Pooling Systems (iGPS Company LLC).The turnover of this organisation has redoubled during the last years. To fulfill the needs of the customer Schoeller Arca Systems has set up more than 10 production lines to produce the required number of pallets.
The pallets weigh less than 50 pounds, handle loads of up to 2,800 pounds, are edge-rackable and meet or exceed the most rigid pooling standards. The pallet has been tested by Schoeller Arca Systems. Six 12 foot high stacks of pallets were put in storage and four eight ounce gasoline igniters were lit by a torch. When the fire was out, the damage was minimal. A commodity test with eight double triple wall corrugated containers on pallets in racks also gave a positive result and the ranking was as follows:
Soft wood Risk ranking: 2,0
Hard wood Risk ranking: 1,5
Plastic Pallet of Schoeller Arca Systems Risk ranking: 1,29
The lower the ranking, the safer the pallet.
Ludo Gielen is product manager and proud with the results.“This is a tremendous big step for the plastic pallet-industry, and a worldwide breakthrough. The product is a success through the whole supply chain. René Wolfkamp is the Chief Executive Officer from Schoeller Arca Systems and he knows that this business will accelarate enourmous in the next coming years. In USA and Europe as well.
