Beverage Crates (Special Products/Beverage/Crates)
Why using bottle crates?
The bottle crate – whether intended for beer, soft dinks, mineral water or other beverages – provides an efficient storage and distribution of your products.
It is an environmentally friendly returnable product with a life span of more than 10 years. Due to the activities in recycling of Schoeller Arca Systems we are able to produce 60 to 70 % of our products with regrind.
We guaranty a technical design that matches with your requirements. Stability analyses start during design phase and in conjunction with product tests, the results enable us to work towards a stacking scheme up to four pallets high (depending on the design).
Last but not least the bottle crate is an important instrument for the marketing of beverages. It is a durable packing solution that serves within the complete logistic chain, i.e. from the point of sale to the private households, as advertising medium. Thus it contributes to a stable customer retention.
Beverage Logistic Products (Special Products/Beverage/Beverage Logistic Products)
Besides a great variety of bottle crates, Schoeller Arca Systems also offers further products especially developed for the beverage industry.
We offer alternatives to the existing logistic solutions like steel barrels and shrink-wrap packaging.
Compared to the traditional transport solutions they contribute to reduce costs in respect of material use, energy consumption and transportation.
For transportation of large liquid volumes like fruit juice concentrates we could offer our IBC Container “Combo”. For transportation of 19 litre large volume water bottles we could provide our “Bottleguard”

Crate design – a reflection of your brand!
Today, the beverage crate is no longer a mere transport container, it has been transformed into a design and marketing object. A conspicuous design, which accentuates the form and the specific implementation of surface textures and colour design, presents each brand in an appropriate way and differentiates it from those of competitors.
Textured surfaces
Creative accents are set using matte textures and smoothly polished surfaces.
Reliefs
Elements of your logo, embossed as a relief, will strikingly highlight the appearance of your crate.
Two-colour technique
The new “two-colour” technology, used for the first time in the Radeberger crate, makes possible an entirely new crate design.
Decoration techniques – for perfect branding!
In-mould labels
Using in-mould labels, a very high-quality illustration of the brand can be achieved on the crate. They make a photographically realistic image possible with subtle colour gradients. Areas set aside for printing can be designed with a matte or high-gloss finish (see Tucher).
Printed crates
Printing the crates is also an ideal way to achieve great brand presentation. Using a silk-screening process, high-quality prints of up to six colours with the highest resolution are possible. Special colours can also be used and subtle colour gradients can be achieved.
Carrying comfort – the customer will appreciate it!
With regard to carrying comfort, Schoeller Arca Systems has come up with a series of innovative solutions. The handgrips of the crates are continually being improved, additional central handgrips integrated and dividable crate systems developed. Remember, a crate that is comfortable to handle is a selling point for the customer!
Ergonomic handgrips
Whether lamella, airmould or soft touch grip, all these technical solutions enable the design of sturdy grip areas that are comfortable in the hand due to their rounded shape and the materials used. Central handgrips along the longitudinal axis of the crate also facilitate transporting the containers.
Dividable crates
Dividable crates are easy to separate and comfortable to carry home. The manufacturer can still use them in normal filling plants. Schoeller Arca Systems offers you two different solutions for this type of crate: the “Handy” used, for example, for Prinzregent Luitpold Beer and the “Splitbox” used by Paulaner breweries.
In the “Handy”, the two sections of the crate are unlocked by pulling up the two middle handgrips. The two halves of the “Splitbox” are separated by vertically lifting up the handles that are folded down on the top edge of the crate.
Customized Dimensions – the right choice for your needs.
Sales strategy – carrying comfort – logistic efficiency.
The different demands that our customers make on a bottle crate,
has consistently contributed to the development of new crate designs and different package sizes.
Crate family - flexible sales strategy
In order to respond with flexibility to the different requirements of the market, Breweries often procure crate families that include the standard sizes 20 x 0,5 l, 24 x 0,33 l, 11 0,5 l and 12 x 0,33 l respectively. Hence
it is possible to choose the appropriate package size according to the consumer behaviour. E.g. large packaging sizes used on established markets and small packaging sizes used for product lanches on new markets.
Optimized carrying comfort
For the benefit of the carrying comfort optimal packing density is not optimized upon. The crates have a longitudinal designed middle handle. The low weight and the small packaging sizes are to encourage the customers to spontaneous purchase decisions.
Optimized logistic efficiency
Logistic efficiency came to the fore when developing the packing solution for Herforder. The objective was to achieve the highest number of bottles inside the crate and best utilization of the crates on the pallet.
Crate designs of the shelf- crates from the firm’s own machines
We also have on hand crate designs from our own machines and can offer you solutions for all types of bottles. We would like to mention in particular our “Exclusive Serie” which covers three different crate sizes. The crates are distinctive due to their generously designed advertising space and can be equipped with soft touch handgrips if desired.
The unusual Pott’s crate, the Barre crate and the Hacker Pschorr display crate are also available and are suitable for transporting swing-top bottles among others.
Diversity
Due to our many years of activity in developing beverage crates, today we can avail ourselves of a large and diverse selection of injection moulding machines. Design modifications on existing machines make possible the production of beverage crates at low prices, especially when only small numbers are needed.

Tangible advantages for product presentation and carrying comfort!
;)
The Bottle Carrier for one-way or returnable packs is an innovative solution which facilitates handling bottles, minimizes packaging size and guarantees optimum product presentation.
The packaging solution
The Bottle Carrier is suitable for transporting four to eight bottles with a volume of 0.33 to 2.0 litres. The carrier must be adjusted to the diameter of the bottles and the number of bottles to be carried respectively.
In the fully or semi-automated packaging process, the bottles are clipped into the carrier. In addition to this, the pack is wrapped around at the bottom with a narrow band to hold everything in place. Alternatively, a band of plastic foil up to 190mm in width can be used: this can also be printed with additional product information.
By means of a rotation system, the individual bottles are turned until the label is visible. The EAN codes of the individual bottles are therefore located on the inside. The EAN code for the whole pack is attached to the band or the plastic foil on the outside.
Handling
The handgrip of the carrier, equipped with a flexible hinge, guarantees optimal handling of the pack throughout the whole logistical chain. When in the down position, the flexible grip facilitates easy stacking of the packs, when pulled up, it offers sufficient room for comfortable carrying.
It is no longer necessary to tear open foil in order to take out individual bottles. With a simple twist, any of the bottles can be released from the packing unit. The empty bottles can easily be clicked back into the carrier for comfortable transport to the bottle-bank.
Advantages that speak for themselves
The manufacturer has total control over the presentation of their product to the best advantage at point of sale. The bottle labels are displayed on the outside, decoratively and brand friendly; unattractive and torn-open foil packs are now a thing of the past.
The retail business is happy as pack volume is minimized. The tearing open, collecting and disposal of plastic foil are no longer necessary. The shelves can be filled more quickly and simply with individual bottles.
The consumers like to help themselves! The attractive presentation of the product and the comfortable carrying grips are convincing arguments for the consumer.
The environment is protected as the bottles are easily carried back to the return stations using the carrier, this raises the return quota for empties. The Bottle Carrier itself can also be recycled and its material value returned as profit to the food retail or beverage wholesale industry.
In addition to these points, the new packing plants use only 10% energy compared to the standard shrink-pack plants.
Bottleguard for high volume water bottles
;)
The Bottleguard is suitable for the transport of high-volume water bottles. The Bottleguard can hold eight bottles with a volume of 19 litres each.
In comparison to similar transport solutions made of metal, this carrier made of synthetic material is lighter in weight although just as sturdy and needs no maintenance or repairs. In addition to this, synthetic material has the positive characteristic of absorbing shocks. Therefore, the water bottles are subject to appreciably less damage than in other carriers.
Keykeg – the revolutionary disposable keg
;)
The globe-shaped PET keg is the alternative to traditional kegs. It guarantees contents of excellent quality. It is very light in weight and efficient with regard to logistics. The container is eminently suited for beverage export as it can be recycled easily, thus making cleaning and return transport unnecessary.
The packaging
The one-way kegs with a volume of 20 and 30 litres respectively are suitable for liquids of all kinds but particularly for carbonated drinks. The globe-shaped PET keg encloses a flexible interior bag which takes the liquid. The exterior packaging of cardboard is for additional protection during transport and for advertising product information.
Handling
The filling plant consists merely of a pallet station and a filling station which is available fully or semi-automatic. Cleaning plants for washing the containers are not necessary.
For extracting the liquids, traditional dispensing equipment can be used, these will only need an adapter for the new type of valve. The contents of the keg are emptied by introducing pressure into the area between the globe and the bag. This means the beverage does not come into contact with CO2 or the air which makes for longer storage and also makes it possible to empty the keg completely.
A sustainable solution
The whole package weighs a mere kilogram which is only a tenth of the weight of a traditional steel keg. Due to its light weight, only a minimum of raw material is necessary for the production of the keg. Another advantage is that using the Keykeg leads to considerable savings in energy and thus to a reduction of CO2 emissions.
